After a leader used her questions to shame her, Lily stopped attending. Every church invitation tightened her chest. Schammy did not say, get over it. He sat, listened, and asked: can we separate what one person did from who Jesus is?
Psalm 34:18 says the Lord is near the brokenhearted. In John 20, the risen Jesus enters a locked room and shows His wounds. Christ does not demand a false smile before coming close; He brings peace and truth to wounded people.
The church is called Christ's body, yet its members can sin, fail, or misuse power. Spiritual harm does not become holy because it happened in a religious place. Forgiveness also does not require renewed access, silence, instant trust, or return to an unsafe setting.
The Holy Spirit can guide one step at a time: write what happened, speak with a safe person outside the involved authority chain, receive responsible pastoral or professional support, and assess a community by biblical faithfulness, transparency, and fruit. When abuse or crime may be involved, seek protection and qualified authorities as appropriate.
Practice H.E.A.L.: Honestly speak with Jesus, Explain facts and effects, Ask for safe support, and Leave room for a paced next step. Your wound matters, and your story does not end with one person's failure.
